Cloudbirth

Where once there was a God,
a cloud slept high in the sky,
suspended by strings of razor.

The lonely cloud took its life
and divided it into separate twin billows,
alone and wandering in the dark,
wanting to create a sky full of comfort.

They came upon the God
where once the single cloud lay,
and God said:
"Let there be sadness,
for sorrow begat life."

December Garden

On the crowded city street,
a black rose grew
in between our bodies,
and we twisted
off the thorns
and gave them away
to the onlookers
gathering in the cold.
